The Twilight Club

Biographical Profile

Yasuhiko Genku Kimura, Executive Director of The Twilight Club, has dedicated his life to the integration of the East and the West, spiritual philosophy and natural science, and philosophical ideas and practical action for the creation of a spiritually and intellectually enlightened civilization wherein all forms of human suffering are eradicated.

Kimura was born in Japan, was trained in the Soto School of Zen Buddhism, and, at the age of 21, was ordained a Zen Buddhist Priest. From 1979 to 1981, he engaged in an intensive study of contemporary and ancient systems and practices of Eastern Philosophy in India. In 1983, he moved permanently to the United States to pursue his life-long commitment.

In 1990, after realizing the critical importance of business to the transformation of the world, Kimura established his independent business-strategy consulting practice, and in 1996, founded Metaconsulting Institute, specializing in strategic thinking and organizational transformation.

Kimura’s custom-made consulting programs are renowned for their unique transformative power because he creatively utilizes his deep knowledge of esoteric Eastern and Western spiritual philosophies and of advanced scientific thought, and, through unique Socratic dialogue, he helps his clients and students awaken their own self-knowledge and creative-thinking ability.

In 1999, Kimura was appointed Executive Director of The Twilight Club, originally founded by Herbert Spencer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, John Burroughs, Mark Twain, Andrew Carnegie, and other distinguished figures of the 19th century. Kimura is widely credited for his work in reinventing The Twilight Club for the 21st century.

Kimura has been called “a philosopher of change,” and is considered one of the foremost thinker-writers in the field of integral philosophy and science, and a leader in the ethical and spiritual transformation of humanity. His publications include The Twilight Manifesto (2000), Think Kosmically Act Globally (2000), The Book of Balance (2002), and Towards the Third Enlightenment (2002), as well as numerous articles, essays, and translations in the fields of spirituality, ethics, philosophy of science, and business.

Kimura is co-editor of The Cosmic Perspectives, The Twilight Club’s quarterly journal, for which he writes his thought-provoking essays, along with today’s leading integral thinkers. He travels and lectures extensively, while continuing to lead his transformational consulting seminars around the nation.
